Patty Pravo’s songs are melancholy and avant-garde, gritty and sophisticated. These contrasts take concrete form in the set and lighting designs prepared for her new 2008 tour, a show ideal for theatres and open-air venues, part of which was designed personally by the artist.
DESCRIPTION

Deep colours moving in utmost silence

Closely involved in the creative process along with lighting designer Massimo Tomasino, the singer wanted a show with a lot of atmosphere, in which images and music reflected each other in a coherent manner. The precise brief was to avoid pastel shades, preferring strong colours such as acid yellow, red and shocking blue; the light rig also had to ensure the utmost silence, indispensable during theatre performances, particularly when the singer accompanied herself on the piano.
Thanks to their original elongated lines and 10°x90° lens, four SGM Ribalta illuminate from a very short distance the backdrop of white sheets, which left very little space for the installation; on the floor, two internal Giotto Spot 400, at the height of the drums, and two external ones, on a truss bar at 1.5 m.; eight Giotto Spot 400 and eight Synthesis Spot flown from truss bars provide lighting from above.

The result

The strong beams of deep contrasting colour and the illumination of the backdrop meet on the singer from below and above to great effect:
for the song "La viaggiatrice Bisanzio", all the moving head fixtures move with their iris diaphragms closed, reproducing pencil-slim light beams cutting through the smoke-filled atmosphere; for a rock song like "Les etrangers", two gobo wheels are used, rotating clockwise and counterclockwise at top speed.
The entire show was pre-programmed before the tour began, using WYSIWYG on an SGM Regia 2048 Live console. After having positioned the fixtures during set-up, no other checks were required before running the show.
